New Aberdeen theatre company hoping to beat the January blues with a musical comedy spin on ‘Cinderella’.

New Aberdeen theatre company, A TO Z Aberdeen, will stage Stiles and Drewe’s ‘Soho Cinders’ - an outrageous and witty comedy that’s the perfect way to beat the inevitable January blues.

‘Cinderella’ as you've never seen it before; this modern adaptation transfers the classic fairytale to the dirty streets of Soho. The team at A TO Z are trading in royal balls and palaces for the vibrant and eclectic district in London’s West End.

A story about politics, scandal and true love, Soho Cinders is an unorthodox fairytale, where everyone must fight for their own happily ever after.

Though never performed locally before, the show has roots to home. West End star Amy Lennox, who tread the boards in the Granite City in her youth, originated one of the leading roles in London.

Director Joel Simpson is joined by Erin Tierney as assistant director and Alisdair Sneden as musical director. Katy Johnson and Meg Stanger, known for their award-winning efforts with Aberdeen Student Show, head up the administration and Molly Cowan is the social media and fundraising guru.

Simpson said: “Directing a show that no-one has done in Aberdeen before is an exciting feeling, but since it hasn’t been staged often nationally either, it is a bit daunting too. Without any previous productions to borrow inspiration from, this really has been a labour of creativity for us.”

“It will reflect the country’s affairs in 2026 – it might be a fairytale, but the issues underneath it are very real. Audiences are going to get up close and personal with our characters in more ways than one, so I really cannot wait to see it all come together”.

“The show contains all of the ingredients of the Cinderella fairytale too, but remixed to fit the modern day. ‘Buttons’ is now ‘Velcro’, fairy godmothers are wealthy business tycoons – and misplacing a phone brings more consequences over losing a glass slipper.
